Back

We've been back from our Portland vacation for a few days now. Coming back to the routine life of a mother of 4 has been an adjustment. I wish I could say that going on vacation had been an adjustment, but it wasn't. Apparantly I really needed a vacation! It took me all of 5 minutes after leaving last Wednesday to relax and get in vacation mode. It was great having lots of adult conversation, staying in a nice hotel, eating out, shopping, enjoying lots of exlusive time with Brad, and going to see "Wicked".

Honestly, the best thing about our vacation was that I to got to do all those things without the usual stress of trying to figure out what to do with the kids or who to get to babysit them. I have to say a HUGE, GIGANTIC thank you to my mother-in-law, Paula. THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU!!! She came from Utah to stay with the kids and take care of them for us. I didn't worry one bit while we were gone and the kids enjoyed spending so much time with their grandma.

Wednesday night we arrived in Portland, checked into our hotel, and then walked a few blocks to have dinner at PF Changs. Mmmm, mmmm good! So yummy! We even got our meal discounted a bit for poor service - although it really wasn't that bad. We just had to wait a bit here and there (but I found I don't mind waiting as much when I'm not counting the clock/dollars for babysitting).

Thursday was the first day of basketball for Brad and Brent. (And Ryan, he drove down that morning.) Ash and I shopped. And shopped. And shopped. Our feet hurt so bad by the end of the day - and Ash even had a couple of blisters! I found a super cute dress (for a steal of a price), some shoes, a dressy jacket, plus a few other things. Ash found a ton of stuff too, including lots of new shirts. It was a very successful day. We topped it off by painting our toenails while putting our feet up that evening.

On Friday we all went and did a session in the Portland temple. What a great way to start off Brad's and my 11th anniversary! It was a beautiful temple and a small session. It was great! That night we went to see "Wicked". It was fabulous! I hadn't heard the music or read the book before. The only thing I knew going into it was that it had gotten a lot of good reviews. Well, the reviews were all right! It was really enjoyable! We ended the evening catching a bite to eat during happy hour in the bar of the restaurant in our hotel. Kinda funny to start the day in the temple and end it in the bar! They didn't mind that we only drank soda though, and the food was super cheap and really yummy! ($2 gourmet hamburgers for the boys and I had $4 salmon cakes)

Saturday was time to pack up, but we did do a bit of shopping with the boys. I found another 4 pairs of shoes, much to Brad's chagrin. We also went to Powell's books. It is a book store that takes up an entire city block! We found some great books to bring home to the kids, plus some funny magnets to add to my collection. Then the boys were off to watch more basketball while Ash and I hit one of the outlet malls. I was able to find lots of great buys for Kyle, who is growing like a weed. We also ate Killer Apples - one of the best caramel, chocolate covered apples I've ever had from Rocky Mountain Chocolate Factory. We got home that night just after midnight. It was nice to snuggle into my comfy bed again! I also got to wake up listening to the boys talking/babbling to each other in their room. That is one of my favorite sounds!
I'm so glad that we were able to go and that we had such a great time!

Looks like you had a lot of fun. I love the Portland temple! I went to the dedication and I was also married there.
I personally would have skipped the shopping trips and gone to the basketball games though. :)

Just wanted to say I LOVED being with your kids while you had a break. They are the best! And they have some pretty swell parents, if I don't say so myself! Love ya!
