Presenting...

...our dancer, Sarah!  Sarah took both ballet and jazz this year.  She enjoyed them both and was excited for her recital mid-June.  She did a great job.  In her ballet dance she even had a stand out part where she was paired with the only boy in the group.  We are so proud of the excellent job she did.  Her ballet dance combined groups from both the Port Orchard and the Silverdale schools along with a singer.  The singer did a pretty good job.

Her jazz dance was set to the song "Barracuda" which I thought was a fun choice, until two days before the recital. That's when we found out that it would be sung by a soloist as well. (A different girl than who sung her ballet song.) The "new" rendition was definitely not an "improved" rendition. Ick.
It was fun that she got to perform in a "real" theater instead of at the high school.
What was not fun was the outrageously long dress rehearsal (6 hours for us and we left early).  The poor dancers were all stuck in the dressing rooms backstage while they waited and waited and waited.  Everything seemed to take 3 times as long as it needed to.  The biggest problem was that the school put on two shows in one - and decided to rehearse the first show first.  Even though that first show contained almost exclusively their head dance team.  I felt so bad for all the young dancers and their parents.  It was hard enough for the older girls to sit and wait.  Sarah and her friends nicknamed their dressing room "The Dungeon".  She said it was hot and stuffy and they were constantly being told to be quiet.   :(
So while Sarah loves dance, I'm not sure this is the studio for us.  We'll have to figure out what we want to do over the summer break.  I know one thing, this girl will always be a dancer, even if it's just to the radio in her bedroom.  She loves to move to the music!

Good job, Sarah! She looks like a natural born dancer. Lucky girl.
