Fun without Mom

For some reason it seems to be tradition to make sugar cookies for certain holidays - Halloween, Christmas, Valentines Day... While I love eating sugar cookies, I really dislike making them. In my opinion, it is too much work for a simple treat. Then there is the mess of letting kids in the same vicinity as frosting. I think I have only done sugar cookies with the kids 2 or 3 times. Ever.
This year, for Valentines Day, I thought I would let the kids go at it themselves. Sarah really enjoys making treats and Chloe and Kyle like to help. I handed them the supplies after church and went to take my nap. I woke up to find that they had made nearly 60 cookies and tidied (tidy-ed?) up the kitchen as well. Hooray, hooray!

I handed the girls each a squeeze tube of icing (this stuff was great!) and let Kyle man the sprinkles. They had a blast! I got to sit back and watch them! They took cookies around to our neighbors and then we all got to eat a few ourselves. The kids had a great afternoon working together and I had my peaceful nap. This will definitely be a new tradition in our house!
