Absent

Okay, I'm here! Sorry for the absence. (I'm sure you've all been crying into your pillows at night.) I've been meaning to post some of the things I've been doing (as opposed to my kids), but I've got a couple of pictures to take, and I keep forgetting, and ... You know how it goes. Maybe tomorrow I'll get around to that post.

Today was the last "day" of school - all 2 1/2 hours of it. Hooray! (I think.) Sarah called me this morning at 8:30 to ask if she could bring home a crayfish. Ummm... do I really need to think about this one? Mostly I had to think of a good reason as to why my answer was no. A simple no just won't do in this household. Bah!

We went to McDonald's to celebrate. It was supposed to be special because we actually went INSIDE. I'm queen of the car-picnic. Kyle still didn't dare to go down the slide. He did, in his usual fashion, manage to find some older boy to play tag with. Sarah, in her usual fashion, sat with me most of the time. She is too tall now - she says. She gets too knocked around in there, sometimes her fault, sometimes not. Chloe and Aaron had a great time. Aaron just loves to roam free. He doesn't care where or when.

Kyle threw a major fit in the car on the way home. Bah! Oh yeah, did you notice how I said, "the car"? The van has something wrong with it so I've been driving the car lately. I love our car, but it is technically illegal for Sarah to ride in the front seat and Chloe feels a little cramped between Aaron's car seat and Kyle's booster. Oh well! It's better than nothing! The van goes in on Friday to get fixed. Hopefully it won't take too long or too much money.

Now I'm off to make the bed (I LOVE a freshly made bed!) and hang up clean towels (I love those too). Then it's down to my neighbor's house for some girls' night out time. Aaahhh...

Sarah's pretty tall. I wouldn't be too worried about her riding in the front seat.
Don't worry about not posting - I've just been looking at your cake post over and over again!

I always think about having some tradition for celebrating the end of school, but we have never really established one.

I would hope if you got pulled over, and explained about your van being in the shop, they would probably accept that. When Meg "became a woman," I felt like there should be some kind of rite of passage. I gave her the option of piercing her ears or sitting in the front seat (both of which I had previously told her that she'd have to wait until she was 12 to do, and she was eleven and a half when she began menstruation). She opted for sitting in the front seat. Shortly after that, they made the law that you had to be 13 to sit in the front. I was talking about this with Stacy Jensen a few months before Meg turned 13 and she told me one of her friends had just received a ticket for allowing her twelve year old to sit in the front seat.

Looking forward to seeing photos of what you've been doing, and I totally agree with you about clean sheets and a freshly made bed.

Ahhh... let the summer fun begin. That is funny about you and Brad trying to coerce us your direction.... I was just thinking... "I wish Court were here so that we could just hang out and talk and the kids could run around like hooligans together." I guess it will have to wait for Bear Lake (but you do make some pretty convincing arguments. :)!)

I like your tradition of going to McDonalds for an end of year celebration, my boys would love that-especially if we went inside. (I'm like you.....if we go it's ALWAYS the drive-thru)

I'm like Pam and don't really have one of those traditions in place yet. (; Although we did go to the Drive-in movie for the first time ever on the last day of school. Maybe we'll have to consider that one for a possible tradition. (:
