Anyone who knows Brad, knows that he is a bit of a mathematician. And really, what engineer isn't? Sarah enjoys math just as much and so Brad has always given her math problems here and there to challenge her and to see just how much she can figure out. Last night was one of those times. For fun, Brad wrote some numbers down on a paper and then asked Sarah to see if she could figure out the pattern and predict the next number.
Here's what he wrote:
1, 2, 6, 42, 1806, _____
Can you figure it out?
It took Sarah about 3 minutes. Literally. Brad was even surprised at how fast she was - but you should have seen the delight on his face as he checked her answer (3,263,442) and saw that she was right. She had one proud papa (and mama) last night.
So today I found the paper sitting on the counter and thought, "I'd better see if I can figure it out too. I'm no math genius, but I should still be smarter than Sarah (for now)."
I figured out the pattern too! (Yay, me!) The funny thing is that I figured out a slightly different pattern than Sarah and Brad used. Weird, but cool. Sarah and I had fun discussing the difference between the two patterns that work.
P.S. If you'd like to know the pattern, or have me confirm whose pattern you used to find the answer, let me know and I'll send you an email. :)

I must be a math nerd too! Because I'm really proud that I figured it out. :) Sarah is such a smarty.
I got it! =) You'll have to email me what two different methods and i'll email you what I did! =)
you guys are just too smart for me! i know where i will be sending braydon to get answers for his math problems.....sarah? :)!!
Yeah, I got it too, but I've always been pretty good with patterns, though I'm not a math lover...
Here's a non-math pattern for you to share with them:
What common boys name continues this familiar patter?
J F M A M J
I am WAY impressed Sarah got this, although not surprised - she is one bright kid
and yes I did work it out (with no help from hubby lol)
Ok, so the math wizard genes didn't come from me. E-mail the pattern to me. Maybe old dogs can still learn new tricks! Smarties!! Love ya!

took me a while lol
Thanks for making me use my brain! I didn't even ask Aaron for help. Now I don't want to hear how surprised everyone is that I got it though:)
Hmmm...math for fun...who knew!
:)
Sarah told me to check out the problem on your blog. I'm not surprised that she figured it out so fast. I think that one of the reasons why she & Chloe do so well at the piano is because they are math whizzes.

PS I'm curious to know what the other method is to figure this problem out...
Very impressive! I used to be sort-of a math nerd. Nothing on Brad's level :)
